Karin Lim has been a partner at Presgrave & Matthews since September 1, 1991. She was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya on January 2, 1987, and has been practicing with the firm ever since. Additionally, she is admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in the State of Victoria, Australia. Karin holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the Australian National University in Canberra and a double degree in Economics and Law, with a major in Accounting.
With over 38 years of experience as a litigator, Karin leads the litigation practice at Presgrave & Matthews as the managing partner. She has a dynamic and extensive practice, regularly appearing in hearings, trials, and appeals. She is frequently called upon to act as senior counsel in a wide range of litigation matters, including administrative law, commercial and contract disputes, civil litigation, probate and wills, land disputes, and employment law.
Karin specializes in High Court and appellate litigation before the Court of Appeal and the Federal Court of Malaysia. Many of her cases have resulted in reported judgments in the renowned Law Journals.
Her clientele includes private individuals, financial institutions, multinational corporations, publicly listed companies, local authorities, professional associations, joint management bodies, management committees, and state authorities.
Karin has handled complex and high-profile probate and wills litigation, including disputes over contested wills, corporate conflicts, commercial contracts, employment matters, intellectual property, and trust cases.
She is also highly experienced in compulsory land acquisition matters and regularly represents clients in Land Reference hearings, judicial reviews, and appeals at all levels of the Malaysian courts under the Land Acquisition Act 1960 and the National Land Code 1965. Additionally, she appears before State Appeal Boards in planning permission hearings and judicial reviews under town and country planning legislation.
Karin has served as lead counsel for various local authorities, including Majlis Perbandaran Pulau Pinang (MPPP), Majlis Bandaraya Subang Jaya (MBSJ), and Majlis Bandaraya Seberang Perai (MBSP), in significant legal proceedings.
She has also represented the Chief Minister Incorporated (CMI) in landmark cases involving land acquisition for educational purposes and constitutional matters. Furthermore, she and the firm have acted on behalf of the State Authority by way of Fiat in the Ann Joo Steel case and has represented notable entities such as the Penang Development Corporation (PDC), Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBA), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), and Koperasi Tunas Muda (KTM).
Ms. Lim obtained her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra, Australia. ANU is renowned for its strong academic programs and commitment to legal education, providing her with a solid foundation in law that has supported her distinguished career.
